Ruth Wragg - Jones

Ruth is a Brighton‑based screen print artist who has been happily printing for over twenty years.

Her prints, Cephalopod Scenes (sefalopod), bring together two things Ruth loves: Sussex architecture and all creatures that live in the sea. As a former diver who still dreams of getting back underwater one day, it is no surprise that sea life sneaks into her prints.

Each print starts as a hand drawn illustration, printed in 4 or 5 layer screen prints. Ruth loves the contrast of drawing the formal structure and repeating patterns in buildings, and the agile, fluid, flexible form of the octopus. Each octopus has a different character and perhaps even a different intention; curious or conquering you decide.
